  Iron sights require no batteries, and have no glass to maintain. They are generally the lightest and most robust sighting solution. Having a set to begin training with your rifle and build foundational skill in a reliable cost effective manor. If/when the user moves to a more refined sighting system flip up iron sights can remain zeroed and stowed away on the rifle to add a secondary or backup sighting system, or they can be moved to a different platform as well.
